Buy to Build shines a light on some of our brightest home designs

Metricon

Home buyers across the country have fallen in love with Metricon’s sought-after designs, with some of our most appealing options featured on Channel 10’s hugely popular Buy to Build.

If you’re considering taking the leap on your first home-buyer journey, are in the market to upsize, or already have a block of land and are in the mood to start over with a KnockDown Rebuild adventure, you’ll get plenty of inspiration from the Buy to Build guest stars below...

Penelope and Nathan, Melbourne

For Penelope and Nathan, saying goodbye to their beloved suburban family home marked the start of an exciting new chapter - and Metricon’s Palm Springs-inspired Vantage 48 in Rowville offered a bold and beautiful vision of what their future could look like. As soon as they stepped inside, they were wowed by the home's light-filled interiors, dramatic void, and statement wine cellar. “It’s modern, it’s contemporary, and it’s got a beautiful beach vibe,” Nathan said. The spacious entertainer’s kitchen, complete with a wide island bench and cleverly tucked-away sink, quickly ticked a major box on their wishlist. “It’s mind-blowing,” Penelope added, gazing up at the void. “It’s playful and theatrical, but still feels intimate in other areas.”

Upstairs, the couple was equally impressed by the luxurious main suite, featuring textural finishes, hidden wardrobes, and a show-stopping double shower ensuite. Stepping out to the alfresco area, they pictured themselves enjoying long evenings with friends and family - a priority for the couple, who see their home as a hub for connection. “We entertain a lot and love including friends as part of our extended family,” Penelope shared. “A home like this gives us the space to do more of that.” With its perfect mix of grand design and real-life functionality, the Vantage 48 offered a compelling vision for a home that’s not just stylish, but truly lived in.

James and Lashaye, Melbourne

Newlyweds James and Lashaye kicked off their house-hunting journey on Buy to Build with a visit to Metricon’s brand-new Atessa 28 display home in Mickleham - and it made an immediate impression. Described by Lashaye as “very modern” and “beautiful,” the Atessa’s clever use of space, including wide hallways, high doorways, and a stunning raked ceiling, made it feel far more expansive than its footprint would suggest. “It’s very luxe and cosy,” she said of the main bedroom, calling it a “sanctuary” thanks to its peaceful placement at the front of the home and standout features like a barn door and elegant ensuite.

What stood out most to James and Lashaye was how thoughtfully the Atessa caters to growing families, without sacrificing style or comfort. “I love the entertainer’s island bench with no sink in it,” said Lashaye, appreciating the separation of utility and entertaining spaces. With storage tucked into every corner and seamless indoor-outdoor flow, the design is clearly made for both practicality and enjoyment. With its smart layout and family-focused features, the Atessa 28 proves that great things really do come in beautifully designed packages.

Carla, Melbourne

Real estate agent Carla relished living the high life in inner-city Melbourne, but she knows better than most the benefits of turning rent money into a home of her own. However, a massive house with a big garden wasn't her style. “I’m looking for a three-bedroom townhouse with secure parking for two cars,” she said.

Right away, Buy to Build host, Walt. surprised her with the four-bedroom TownLiving by Meticon Rosedale, suggesting one of the rooms could be a second lounge. “I’m really liking the contrast between the brick and the rendering,” Carla remarked, admiring its standout façade.

She was also drawn to the bright kitchen, hidden laundry, and the rumpus room at the top of the stairs.

But what truly sealed the deal was the spacious master bedroom and ensuite. “This is really important,” Carla noted. “I don’t often get to sleep in, but I want a room where I can truly relax and unwind.”

Kia and Helen, Sydney

Hunting for the perfect dream home design can be a real pressure cooker, but luckily Kia had her best friend Helen by her side, armed with a sharp eye for budgets. As they explored options in Sydney’s northwest, Kia was determined to make her money go further by building something fresh rather than settling for an existing property. “I want attention as soon as you drive in,” she declared. “I want you to go 'wow'.” Helen, knowing her friend too well, added, “It’s got to be classic but bougie.”

When they checked out the four-bedroom Vantage in North Richmond, Kia instantly fell in love with the stylishly sprawling kitchen. She was captivated by the natural tones and abundant light, and could already envision the spacious parents’ retreat upstairs with ample room for her wardrobe and a home office. Even Helen was swayed by the expansive kitchen, especially its hidden pantry.

After calling her husband and getting the thumbs-up from Helen, Kia was sold. The perfect view offered by the Vantage sealed the deal. “We’re going to go with opulence. We’re going to go with prestige. We’re going to go with wow factor. We’re all in.”

Amita and BJ, Gold Coast

Queenslander couple Amita and BJ were hugely impressed with our beautiful, award-winning four-bedroom, three-living area Merricks display home in Labrador on the Gold Coast. The soothing tones of the expansive family zone on the ground floor, with its white benchtops and timber parquetry floors, were particularly appealing. BJ does most of the cooking and the couple loved the wide kitchen and its huge butler’s pantry, plus the stacker doors to the outdoor area.

Climbing the central staircase, they were blown away by the master suite. “It’s massive. It’s very nice,” Amita says, of a space that spills out onto a generous balcony. She was also impressed by the extra lounge upstairs, “It’s great for kids and our parents when they come over.”

Anthony and Dylan, Geelong

Couple Anthony and Dylan were immediately impressed by the contemporary appeal of our two-storey Artisan floorplan from the first moment they saw its stylish façade. “It’s literally stunning," says one of the lads on stepping into our show home in Fyansford, on the western edge of Geelong. “I'm gobsmacked. Walking into the house, it's definitely got the feel that we’re after.”

It includes a beautifully bright, airy and generously broad entrance hall with a floating staircase for that instant wow factor, vast open-plan living to the rear of the ground floor, plus a home theatre. All five bedrooms boast an ensuite and a walk-in wardrobe, with the one downstairs perfect for guests or older relatives. Anthony and Dylan were particularly impressed by the dual vanity in the master. “We can get ready at the same time… it’s giving me a real resort vibe on a Sunday, just relaxing.”

Letitia and Nick, Sunshine Coast

Queensland buyers Letitia and Nick were willing to have their arms twisted about going bigger on their budget. Visiting our sumptuous Qualia show home, previously on display on the Sunshine Coast, they certainly got more than they bargained for right from the off when they were wowed by its soaring, double-height façade with its overhang entrance.

Nick was even more impressed when he saw how high the wood-panelled ceiling was inside for a single-storey, four-bedroom home, “This is pretty wild.” Host Walt Collins agreed. “It’s fun, it’s sexy and it’s sassy,” he suggests. The couple were blown away by the luxurious master with a spa-like ensuite. They also dug the slick study, so they can work from home, and the classy theatre room. “I’d want to be cooking 24/7,” Nick says when he gets to the kitchen, and Letitia jokes the guests would never want to leave, "We'd have to kick them out."

Anna, Newcastle

New South Wales customer Anna looked around the four-bedroom, two-living area Avery design in the Newcastle and Hunter Valley region as she scouted options for a family home to build on their existing block or an investment property. From the get-go, it's clear she was impressed with the Palm Springs-style look of the Avery.

“It’s very grand, and I love the raked ceilings,” she says of the optional extra that lends the living area its contemporary coastal cool. “It’s really bright, with the whites and a splash of timber.” An outdoor room just off of the master suite leans into that blissed-out vibe, and she loves that the kids’ bedrooms are at the opposite corner of the home from the master suite. “It keeps all the noise and the mess down there.” The abundance of storage was another big drawcard.

Lauren, Brisbane

Queenslander Lauren loves Metricon homes, “We know that they have good stuff,” and is searching for the ideal design to build on her family’s block. She’s immediately captivated by the four-bedroom, three-living space Avanti's bright, wood-panelled façade and the way coastal theme carries through to the interior. “The flow! It’s great Feng Shui,” she says. "Your eye is drawn from the front door right out to the backyard immediately.”

Like Anna, she's a big fan of the division between mum and dad's bedroom and the kids, creating a sanctuary where they can enjoy the peace and quiet, while also allowing plenty of room for them to play. A big laundry and plenty of storage is another win. “Any mum would agree any extra storage is king.” She loves that the kitchen is the heart of the home. “I’m connected to everything,” and is also taken by the skylight. “It’s a really thoughtful design with a cosy kind of feel.”

Cherie and Graeme, Melbourne

Melbournians Cherie and Graeme are a blended family looking to combine their buying power for a successful KnockDown Rebuild. They looked at not one, but two Metricon designs. First up was the opulent, double-storey Bayville from the Signature by Metricon range. Anna loves the bi-folds and stacker sliding doors tracing the main living area (there are three) and spilling out onto the outdoor entertainer’s space. She’s even more excited about the extravagant walk-in wardrobe in what would be their master bedroom, “No more floordrobe!”

Graeme says that with their clans joined, “the space is chaos,” so he loves the expansive kitchen with its island hub. And they both agree that the big laundry leading straight from the garage is a win. “It’s the drop zone.”

If they thought the Bayville was impressive, they were blown away by the Designer by Metricon Franklin display home, with a palatial two-storey void at its heart. “It really grabs you as soon as you walk in,” Graeme says. “I absolutely love it,“ Cherie agrees. “It’s exactly what I had envisaged, with this area being flooded by light. It’s beautiful, it’s dramatic.” Every bedroom has an ensuite, with host Walt saying the magnificent master is one of the biggest he’s ever seen on the show, creating a parent’s haven. “This isn’t a walk-in robe; it’s a dressing room,” Cherie gasps. “It’s absolutely everything we could ever ask for in a property.”
