Building a Brighter Future: Meet the 2025 Mario Biasin Legacy Scholarship Recipients

Metricon

At Metricon, we believe in supporting the people who shape the future of our industry. And last week, that mission came to life in a truly meaningful way.

At the inaugural Building and Construction Foundation Gala, four inspiring individuals were named as the 2025 recipients of the Mario Biasin Legacy Scholarships - an initiative we’re proud to support in honour of our beloved late CEO and Co-founder, Mario Biasin.

These scholarships are designed to empower aspiring individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds by helping to remove the barriers that stand between them and a future in the construction industry. Whether it's through financial hardship, family circumstances, or a lack of local experience, these recipients have shown strength, resilience, and a passion for building something better - not just for themselves, but for others, too.

Honouring a Legacy of Opportunity

Established in 2022, the scholarships pay tribute to Mario’s deep belief in people. He was passionate about nurturing talent and creating pathways for everyone - regardless of their background - to succeed in the building and construction industry.

The scholarships are awarded across two categories:

  • Early Career: For apprentices or trainees starting out in a skilled trade
  • Leadership: For those studying towards a construction-related diploma or degree

Let’s meet the incredible 2025 recipients.

Early Career Category

Each recipient was awarded $2,500 to support the next stage of their training journey.

Madison Barnett

Madison is currently completing a Certificate III in Electrotechnology. After experiencing significant hardship due to familial circumstances, she’s determined to carve out a future for herself in the electrical trade. This scholarship will allow her to purchase essential tools and workwear - and help her stay on track to one day mentor others facing similar challenges.

Tylah St Anne

Tylah is a carpentry apprentice, currently working toward her Certificate III. Balancing her apprenticeship while supporting her mother and siblings has been no easy feat. With this support, she’ll be able to cover the cost of tools, gear and transport - essentials that will help her stay focused on her future in the trade.

Leadership Category

Each recipient was awarded $5,000 to assist with formal education and career progression.

Ahmed Hassan

Ahmed, a recent migrant to Australia, brings over a decade of international experience in construction. He’s now undertaking a Diploma of Building and Construction to align with local regulations and boost his job prospects. This scholarship will help ease financial pressure as he works to obtain the certifications needed to support his young family - and relaunch his career here in Australia.

Stephan Kaleopa

Stephan is completing a Bachelor of Construction Management while also helping to care for younger siblings. Despite financial hardship, he’s remained committed to his education. The scholarship will help cover the cost of a laptop, study materials and course fees - giving him the tools he needs to succeed.

Building More Than Homes

Metricon CEO Brad Duggan shared his pride in seeing the scholarships continue to make a difference.

“Mario Biasin built Metricon on a foundation of community and support, always ensuring our team had access to the development and training needed to thrive,” said Brad.

"These scholarships allow us to extend that commitment to the broader industry, helping to open doors for those who have faced socio-economic barriers in their pursuit of a successful career. We hope Mario would be proud of the impact we are striving to achieve, and we look forward to seeing how each recipient’s career unfolds."

The Building and Construction Foundation’s Executive Director, Sara Abraham, also expressed her gratitude for the continued support.

“As leaders in the construction industry, Metricon’s support of our commitment to helping marginalised individuals in the sector is very impactful. We’re incredibly appreciative of this partnership and the financial contributions that continue to help empower the next generation.”
