Meet the minds behind our show-stopping Artisan 56 display home in Rye

Metricon

Luxuriously positioned by the coastline in the heart of Rye on Victoria’s much-loved Mornington Peninsula, the Artisan 56 is one of our most spectacular display homes to date. With its Pacific façade, soaring voids, and coastal-meets-contemporary flair, this home is a five-star example of how clever design and craftsmanship can come together in harmony.

Step through the front door and you’ll be greeted by a light-filled living zone set beneath a dramatic atrium, perfectly capturing those sweeping seaside views and Metricon’s signature emphasis on indoor-outdoor living. Add four indulgent bedrooms - each with their own ensuite and walk-in robe - and you’ve got a sanctuary designed for elevated coastal living with plenty of room to retreat, unwind, and entertain.

So how does a dream home like this come to life? We spoke with the creative minds behind the Artisan 56 to find out.

Senior Display Designer – Zed Mihajlovic

Senior Display Designer Zed Mihajlovic brings a wealth of experience and refined design instincts to every display home he works on. “We’ve got a really talented and experienced team here,” Zed says. “Everyone brings something to the table, and that collaboration is what really elevates the final result.”

When it came to designing for Rye’s coastal setting, Zed’s approach was all about embracing the surroundings. “Large windows and doors bring in natural light and create that sense of connection to the outdoors. Even the walk-in robe in the master suite has skylights - it’s those small details that add something special.”

One of Zed’s favourite design features is the floating staircase in dark timber, which adds warmth and drama as you move through the entry. “It’s a striking moment, and it sets the tone as you make your way to the central living zone,” he says.

That open-plan living area is the true heart of the home, showcasing a wine room, dramatic void, timber-lined ceilings, and pendant lighting. “It’s all about creating that sense of scale and indulgence, balanced with clever joinery and functional touches,” he says.

The exterior was designed to echo the natural beauty of the area. “The façade uses brickwork that reflects the sandy tones of the coastline, with timber-style accents to tie into that relaxed, coastal feel,” he says. “And the garage - currently used as a meet-and-greet space - has future flexibility to become a workshop or additional room depending on the homeowner’s needs.”

Interior Designer – Kristina Orban

With 15 years of display home magic under her belt, Kristina Orban collaborates closely with Zed from the first floorplan sketch to the final touches. “Once the documentation is underway, I begin concepting the interior design,” Kristina explains. “For Rye, the brief was clear: contemporary coastal, but without the clichés.”

Forget nautical stripes and beachy blues. Instead, Kristina imagined a warm, inviting palette of oak tones and sun-bleached neutrals, layered with organic textures and sculptural forms. “It’s about sophisticated minimalism - spaces that feel calm, curated, and connected to the natural environment.”

Statement materials bring the interiors to life: timber floors throughout, curved wool sofas, and a textural stone coffee table anchoring the living area. “Contrast is key,” Kristina adds. “We kept things light and bright, but added black-stained timber accents and matte black hardware to introduce a modern flare. Contemporary artwork echoes the landscape and plays on the coastal surroundings.”

The home’s impressive void gave Kristina the chance to go bold with lighting. “We chose basket-style pendants a metre wide to fill the space with warmth and personality,” she says. Even in the bathrooms, thoughtful colour makes an appearance. “There’s a soft seafoam green mosaic tile - just a hint of colour reflecting those natural ocean hues.”

Display Home Building Manager – Scott Barkley

With over two decades in the building industry, Scott Barkley plays a crucial role in turning big ideas into built reality. “It’s our job to take that incredible design vision and make it happen, on time and on budget,” he says.

It’s a balancing act of precision and practicality. “We build with the mindset that every detail must be replicable at scale,” Scott explains. “That’s why we document everything - hundreds of photos across the build - and keep refining as we go.”

Materials were also carefully selected to suit the coastal environment. “We’ve chosen products that not only look great but can handle the conditions - like salt air and variable temperatures - without compromising on quality or style,” Scott adds.

For Scott, the Artisan 56 is a home that captures imagination from the very first glance. “It’s the façade, that expansive balcony, and the rear alfresco that gives it such a grand presence,” he says. “Every part of it has been designed to feel luxurious and livable.”

Zed agrees. “Everyone on the team has so much trust in Scott,” he says. “He and the team bring our designs to life with so much care. That’s what makes homes like the Artisan 56 truly special.”

National Display Landscape Manager – Scott Coghlan

Working from the outset alongside Zed and Kristina, landscape designer Scott Coghlan brought over 38 years of experience - and 14 with Metricon - to the Artisan 56 project. “We all bounce off each other,” he says. “Zed and Kristina set the tone, and I work to ensure the outdoor spaces feel like a natural extension of the home.”

For the Artisan 56, Scott focused on simplicity and cohesion with Rye’s natural surrounds. “The granite cobblestone path and exposed aggregate driveway create visual texture from the moment you arrive,” he says. “A bubbling water feature and soft greenery at the entry welcome you in.”

Inside-out connectivity was key. “We’ve framed the big picture windows with thoughtful plantings and used a long timber screen to create a natural backdrop,” Scott says. “Feature pots, banksias, and a mostly Indigenous plant palette give the garden year-round interest without overwhelming the senses.”

At the rear, the paved entertainer’s area ties seamlessly into the home’s cabinetry and materials. “We added granite detailing and an outdoor kitchen that connects visually with the interior,” he says. “It’s all about creating spaces that feel unified, intentional, and deeply livable.”

Whether it’s the home design, interior detail, or seamless execution, the Artisan 56 is a masterclass in contemporary coastal living, and a proud testament to the collaboration and craftsmanship at the heart of every Metricon home.
