When Nidhi and her husband first moved to Australia from India nearly two decades ago, they had no idea that one day they’d be building their dream family home under the Queensland sun. After studying and establishing successful careers in IT, the couple settled in Tasmania before making the move to Brisbane - drawn by its warm weather, outdoor lifestyle, and sense of space.
As their family grew, their previous home started to feel a little too snug. “With our eldest about to become a teenager and a new baby on the way, we knew it was time to upsize,” Nidhi says.
Their search for the perfect home led them to Metricon’s Vantage 42 display home - and the decision was instant. “We fell in love immediately with the soaring ceilings and just how open the house was,” Nidhi recalls. “We couldn’t stop thinking about it.”
Soon after, the couple discovered a 600sqm block in Wavell Heights with an ageing home, which they decided to demolish and rebuild from the ground up. “We’ve built before, so we know how stressful it can be - but it’s also incredibly rewarding,” Nidhi says. “We’ve always believed old homes carry old energy, so we wanted to start fresh.”
A home designed for modern family living
Building with Metricon allowed the family to recreate what they loved most about the display home - while tailoring the design to their lifestyle. “We loved the Vantage 42 so much that we chose most of the same options,” Nidhi says. “Metricon’s design team has already put so much thought into every detail, so there wasn’t much to change.”
Still, they made a few thoughtful modifications to make the home truly their own. As practising Hindus, they transformed the downstairs linen cupboard into a prayer room. “It’s such a beautiful, peaceful space for us to worship,” Nidhi says.
The family also reconfigured the powder room to include a shower with direct outdoor access - ideal for rinsing off after a swim in their new backyard pool. “It’s so convenient, especially with the kids and our friends visiting all the time,” she adds.
Open, airy and filled with light
With both parents working from home, the Vantage 42’s generous proportions provide plenty of flexibility. Two open-plan workspaces flow seamlessly from the striking double-height entry, offering the perfect balance of function and style.
“We really love that entrance void and the gorgeous one over the dining area,” Nidhi says. “The floor-to-ceiling sheers let the sunlight pour in, and the glass staircase looks stunning against the dark timber feature wall.”
Upstairs, the family’s primary suite feels like a retreat, with a large walk-in wardrobe and a luxurious ensuite. “There’s so much space that we could finally fit a king bed,” Nidhi laughs. “And the kids each have their own rooms, plus a big rumpus for everyone to relax together.”
A smooth build and a happy ending
Despite the size of their home, the build was completed in just six months. “Our slab went down in April, and we got the keys in October,” Nidhi says. “Everything ran so smoothly - from the salesperson to the Studio M team and our site supervisor, who was fantastic.”
She credits her site supervisor for going above and beyond throughout the process. “We built on a busy road, so there were a few extra planning requirements, but he always looked out for us.”
Now settled into their new home, the family couldn’t be happier. “Building with Metricon was such a positive experience,” Nidhi says. “We absolutely love our home and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Metricon to anyone.”
